MM6 Maison Margiela shows how to wear familiar clothes in new ways

At Milan Fashion Week, MM6 Maison Margiela presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, which quite literally invites us to look at the familiar wardrobe from a different perspective. Almost nothing remains where it traditionally belongs: garments change their purpose, proportions and the way they are worn.
The brand reimagined everyday wardrobe staples by shifting their proportions. Shirts became short dresses with slender straps, with collars repositioned across the chest. Trousers were transformed into sundresses, their unfastened waistbands sitting above the bra. Sweaters and T-shirts, meanwhile, unexpectedly became skirts, with their sleeves left hanging loosely.
The same deliberately undone aesthetic continued through the collection’s details. Shirt collars appeared in unexpected places, while dress hems folded outward, revealing the lingerie underneath.
The collection featured plenty of crumpled textures, distressed denim and trousers gathered loosely around the knees. At the same time, relaxed pieces were paired with sharply tailored blazers and trench coats.
The designers also proposed new ways of wearing pieces that usually leave little room for experimentation. Shirts appeared directly over bare skin. Dresses were left unbuttoned to reveal the bra, while sweaters were worn with just a single sleeve.
For the finale, dresses with deep necklines and soft draping revealed the bras underneath. This interplay between concealment and exposure became one of the collection’s defining design gestures.
