Christian Siriano’s fairytale looks at New York Fashion Week

Christian Siriano presented his Spring/Summer 2027 collection at New York Fashion Week, transforming the runway into a true fairytale. The designer drew inspiration from the 18th-century French folktale «The Story of the Queen of the Flower Islands» from Andrew Lang’s collection.
The tale itself contains plenty of dark moments: a mother hides her beautiful daughter at home in an attempt to save her from a queen who wants to have the girl executed because of her beauty. It was precisely this contrast between the dark story and its fairytale ending that captivated Siriano.
«The fairytale itself is quite dark, but it ends in a soft, dreamlike world that is immersed in flowers», the designer explained. According to Siriano, this duality allowed him to explore two sides of his own personality — the «dark and the sweet».
The transformation was easy to see on the runway. The show opened with understated looks in deep, dark shades and a Gothic mood, gradually becoming lighter and more vibrant. The dark palette gave way to fuchsia, gold, floral prints and sculptural geometric shapes reminiscent of flower buds just beginning to bloom.
Christian Siriano’s signature sense of drama was highlighted by evening gowns featuring an abundance of ruffles, voluminous details and intricate textures. At the same time, the designer went beyond womenswear — the collection also featured menswear looks that retained the brand’s distinctive couture glamour.
Supermodel Coco Rocha was the star of the show. Among those spotted in the front row were Whoopi Goldberg, Brandy Norwood and other celebrities.
