Silk and distressed denim: Ralph Lauren presents his SS’27 collection in New York
Contrasts between menswear tailoring and feminine romance
Ahead of New York Fashion Week, Ralph Lauren presented his women’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection. The show took place at the Jack Shainman Gallery in Manhattan.
This season, the designer explored the theme of romance, reinterpreting it through a combination of menswear-inspired tailoring, relaxed silhouettes and feminine evening looks. Ralph Lauren once again drew on elements of the traditional menswear wardrobe: the runway featured suits, wide-leg trousers, shirts, structured blazers and wide ties. At the same time, the designer paired the sharp silhouettes with corset details, fitted shapes and accents that emphasized femininity.
The contrast was also evident in the interplay of textures. Classic tailoring was juxtaposed with distressed denim, while denim jackets were embellished with feathers. The collection included white suits, voluminous trousers, navy coats and relaxed ensembles. Particular attention was drawn to hand-finished pieces in silk and velvet, as well as textured fabrics with an ombré effect.
The eveningwear portion of the collection revealed another side of the Ralph Lauren aesthetic. The runway featured long draped dresses, as well as designs adorned with micro-sequins, fringe and plunging necklines. One of the most striking looks paired a gold fringed dress with navy trousers, continuing the interplay between masculine and feminine elements.
Ralph Lauren himself described the new collection as «an ironic take on romance» that creates a new sense of elegance. At the heart of his approach are individuality, originality and the freedom to create one’s own style.
The Ralph Lauren womenswear line has traditionally been closely associated with Ricky Lauren — the designer’s wife and longtime muse. She was among the guests at the show. The presentation concluded with the appearance of 86-year-old Ralph Lauren himself, who received a standing ovation from the audience. Ricky later joined him on the runway.
