A Mirror maze and sensual looks: inside Fendi’s Milan show

Maria Grazia Chiuri turns to poetry
As part of Milan Fashion Week, Fendi presented its Spring/Summer 2027 womenswear collection. For Maria Grazia Chiuri, it marks her second Ready-to-Wear collection since her high-profile return to the Italian fashion house.

The designer dedicated the new show to the themes of the body, intimacy and freedom of self-expression. The collection was inspired by the poetry of American writer E. E. Cummings. A line from his poem «i like my body when it is with your» became the leitmotif of the show.

Chiuri explored sensuality through human intimacy, beginning with the most intimate layer of clothing — lingerie. The designer reinterpreted the language of lingerie by combining it with the precise tailoring of the Italian fashion house. The runway featured exposed bras, silk slips and short lace-trimmed shorts paired with wide-leg trousers, blazers and coats.

Overall, the collection was bold and unapologetically sensual. Sheer fabrics, delicate cut-outs and slits emphasized the silhouette, while feathered accessories added a theatrical touch to the looks. Alongside these light and sensual pieces, structured tailoring created a striking contrast between sharply defined suits and almost weightless fabrics.

Mirrors were another key element of the show. Models walked along a mirrored runway that literally multiplied each look and transformed its appearance depending on the viewing angle. In this way, the set design extended the collection’s central theme — the body as something we see not only through our own eyes, but also through the gaze of another person.

Another major musical and cultural reference for the collection was Italian singer Raffaella Carrà. Chiuri drew inspiration from her freedom, energy and confident attitude toward her own body.

Ultimately, Maria Grazia Chiuri presented femininity not as something static, but as the freedom to move, connect with others and experience one’s own body from different perspectives.
