Prime Video has released the first trailer for «Elle» – the prequel series to the beloved 2000s hit «Legally Blonde», the film that helped launch Reese Witherspoon to stardom.
The story centres on a young Elle Woods, this time portrayed by Lexi Minetree. Set in 1995, the series follows the future star lawyer while she is still in high school and only beginning to discover her place in the world.
According to the plot, Elle’s family is forced to relocate from sunny Los Angeles to rainy Seattle because of her father’s job. A new city, a new school and an unfamiliar environment become a major challenge for the teenager. She must make new friends, adapt to her surroundings, experience first love and navigate all the complexities of adolescence.
Joining Lexi Minetree in the cast are June Diane Raphael, Tom Everett Scott, James Van Der Beek, David Burtka, Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Lucas and Amy Pietz.
The project was developed by screenwriter Laura Kittrell, best known for her work on «Insecure». Together with Caroline Dries, she also serves as the series’ showrunner and executive producer.
The involvement of Reese Witherspoon has generated particular excitement around the project. This time, the actress joins the series as an executive producer through her production company «Hello Sunshine».
The first season will consist of eight episodes and will premiere on Prime Video on July 1.
