Dakota Johnson uncovers Anne Hathaway’s dark secrets in the «Verity» trailer
An Adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Bestselling Novel
A new trailer has been released for the psychological thriller «Verity», an adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name by American author Colleen Hoover. The film stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.
The film is directed by Michael Showalter, who previously worked with Hathaway on the romantic drama «The Idea of You».
At the heart of the story is struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), who unexpectedly receives an offer that could transform her career. She is hired to complete a series of novels by bestselling author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), who is no longer able to work following an accident.
Lowen travels to the Crawfords’ secluded estate to go through the author’s archives. Among Verity’s papers, she discovers an unpublished manuscript containing disturbing confessions and details of family tragedies. The discovery forces Lowen to see Verity in an entirely new light and leaves her questioning what in the manuscript is true – and what is merely fiction.
Things become even more complicated as Lowen grows increasingly close to Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett). Meanwhile, Verity’s own behavior raises more and more questions, as the line between truth, lies and manipulation gradually begins to blur.
Alongside Hathaway, Johnson and Hartnett, the cast includes Brady Wagner, Aseel Swango and Daniel Echevarria. The screenplay was written by Nick Antosca and Colleen Hoover.
«Verity» is based on Hoover’s 2018 novel of the same name, which went on to become an international bestseller. It marks another major Hollywood adaptation of the author’s work following «It Ends with Us», which was released in 2024.
The worldwide premiere of «Verity» is scheduled for October 2, 2026.
