Aristocratic wedding: archduchess Isabella of Austria marries
A look at the first photos
One of this year’s most prominent aristocratic weddings has taken place in Vienna. Archduchess Isabella of Austria married 32-year-old Carlos de Palacio Gaitán de Ayala, who works in the private equity sector. A graduate of the MIT Sloan School of Management, he is currently building his career in the United Kingdom.
The wedding ceremony was held at the historic Jesuit Church in Vienna, after which the newlyweds hosted a festive reception for family and guests.
Twenty-five-year-old Isabella von Habsburg-Lothringen is the eldest daughter of Archduke Simeon of Austria and Princess María Paloma of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. Through her father, she is a great-granddaughter of Charles I, the last Emperor of Austria-Hungary.
For the ceremony, Isabella chose an elegant satin gown featuring a lace bodice, short sleeves, and a long train. She completed the bridal look with a long veil and a family tiara. The jewel is composed of five large diamond elements with floral motifs mounted on a platinum frame.
The tiara holds special sentimental value for the bride, as her mother also wore it on her wedding day. For Isabella’s wedding, the treasured family heirloom was lent by her uncle, Prince Pedro of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria. One of its most distinctive features is its versatility: the diamond elements can be worn not only as a tiara but also separately as hair ornaments.
Members of European royal and aristocratic families travelled to Vienna to celebrate the occasion. Among the most distinguished guests were King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, as well as Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant, and Prince Gabriel.
