In Elie Saab and an iconic tiara: Kate Middleton at the Windsor state banquet

A closer look at the Princess’s latest look
Kate Middleton once again captured attention with her evening ensemble. The previous evening, the Princess of Wales and Prince William attended a state banquet at Windsor Castle, held in honour of the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, who was visiting the United Kingdom on a state visit.

It was Kate’s second appearance of the day. In the morning, she joined King Charles III, Queen Camilla and Prince William to welcome the Sultan to Windsor. For the official ceremony, the Princess chose a dark green Alexander McQueen coat and a matching hat, accessorising the look with a Chanel bag, classic black heels and a brooch that once belonged to Princess Diana.

That evening, Kate appeared in a soft yellow Elie Saab gown from the Spring/Summer 2025 collection. The design features a pleated skirt, a high waistline, intricate braided detailing at the neckline and a small cut-out at the front. A delicate, sheer cape draped over her shoulders and flowed into a long train, completing the look.
At first glance, the gown appears to be a solid colour. However, close-up photographs reveal a subtle leopard print that adds a fresh twist to the classic silhouette and introduces an unexpected accent.

Particular attention was drawn to the Lover’s Knot tiara, once frequently worn by Princess Diana. The piece, adorned with dangling pearls, has a history spanning more than a century. It was commissioned by Queen Mary and later given to Lady Di as a wedding gift when she married Charles, then Prince of Wales. Today, it is one of the Princess of Wales’s favourite pieces of jewellery.

Diamond earrings, a bracelet from Queen Elizabeth II’s collection and a gold-toned clutch completed the ensemble. Kate also wore the sash and star of the Royal Victorian Order, along with King Charles III’s Royal Family Order.

That same evening, the Prince and Princess of Wales posed for a new official black-and-white portrait. It was taken by British photographer Greg Williams, known for his work with Hollywood celebrities.
