«Euphoria» star Hunter Schafer takes part in a surreal photoshoot

Where fashion meets art
Hunter Schafer graces the cover of ELLE’s latest issue. For the striking images, photographer and art director Sylvester Makó created a surreal setting where fashion meets theatre and art. Instead of conventional studio backdrops, the shoot features painted scenery, muted lighting and unexpected details.

In one shot, the actress poses in a black feather-trimmed mini dress against a backdrop of flames. In another, she wears a light-coloured coat with dark fur trim and holds a knitted white rat under her arm. These unusual touches give the photoshoot its distinctive mood.

Schafer wears designs by Saint Laurent, Prada, Tom Ford, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hodakova and Emil Dernbach.

Her hairstyles are another standout feature of the shoot. For the various images, she sports several versions of a short bob – from wavy chestnut brown to almost black, as well as a lighter shade with curled-under ends. The different styles give the actress a distinct look in each shot.

Jessica Willis was responsible for the styling, Pablo Kuemin created the hairstyles, and Raúl Alejandre did the makeup. Edith Di Monda worked on the set design.

In the accompanying interview, Schafer discusses a new chapter in her career, her experience of fame and her work on the series «Blade Runner 2099», which will mark her first leading role in a television project. She plays Cora, a fugitive forced to conceal her true identity while fighting for her life. Her partner in the series is Olwen, a replicant played by Michelle Yeoh.

The role also presents Schafer with a new professional challenge. Playing Cora requires plenty of running, demanding stunts and a focus on building stamina. The actress admitted that action scenes had unexpectedly become one of her favourite parts of the job. Yeoh, who has extensive experience with fight sequences, helped her adjust to the physical demands of the role.

Schafer made her debut in «Euphoria» at the age of 19, and the series quickly made her a household name. The actress has admitted that she was very shy at the time and completely unprepared for the overwhelming attention that followed.

Yet «Euphoria» became the starting point for her rapid transformation from a model and artist into an internationally acclaimed actress.

Now, Schafer is exploring entirely different roles, with «Blade Runner 2099» set to be one of her biggest challenges yet. At the same time, she continues to work across fashion and art and collaborate with major brands. The actress describes herself as a true fashion nerd and says that art has always mattered more to her than fame itself.
