Netflix unveils first trailer for «The Chronicles of Narnia» prequel

Directed by «Barbie» filmmaker Greta Gerwig
Netflix has released the first trailer for «Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew». The new film explores the origins of the magical world of Narnia, long before the events depicted in previous adaptations. The project is directed by Greta Gerwig, known for «Barbie» and «Little Women».

The film is based on C. S. Lewis’s novel of the same name, published in 1955. Chronologically, it is the first story in «The Chronicles of Narnia» series, although the book was published after several other instalments.

The story follows Digory and Polly, played by David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell. Using magical rings, they travel to the Wood between the Worlds, a place from which they can journey to other universes. One such journey takes them to Narnia, where they witness the birth of a new world. It is here that they encounter Aslan, the lion who will play a pivotal role in its destiny.

Digory’s uncle Andrew, who opens the door to the children’s magical adventures, is played by Daniel Craig. Emma Mackey portrays Jadis, the future White Witch, who will cast a spell of eternal winter over the enchanted land. Meryl Streep lends her voice to Aslan, while Carey Mulligan also joins the cast.

The project holds special significance for Greta Gerwig. The director has said that she fell in love with the book as a child. Now, she hopes to bring its extraordinary atmosphere to the screen and tell the story that sets all of Narnia’s adventures in motion.

The film will arrive in cinemas on 12 February 2027, followed by its release on Netflix on 2 April.
Once again, audiences will be transported to a world of magic and extraordinary creatures, but this time they will see it in an entirely different light – before the familiar characters and events that turned Narnia into a beloved cultural phenomenon.
