Sasa Schwarzjirg stuns in a unique look at the premiere of «Madama Butterfly»
A blazer with a story
Austrian TV presenter and media personality Sasa Schwarzjirg has shared photos from the premiere of «Madama Butterfly», held as part of the Oper Burg Gars summer festival. For the occasion, she chose more than just an elegant outfit – she wore a blazer with a deeply personal story, crafted from a traditional Japanese kimono she brought home from her travels in Japan.
In her Instagram post, Schwarzjirg revealed that she discovered the kimono in Kanazawa. Later, while visiting the hot spring town of Kinosaki, she decided to give it a new life. A local tailor agreed to transform the traditional garment into a contemporary blazer, although, according to the presenter, it was the first project of its kind she had ever undertaken.
«I love kimonos. I found this one in Kanazawa and later had it tailored into a blazer in Kinosaki. It took some time, but the final result turned out beautifully», she wrote.
Schwarzjirg also reflected on one of the highlights of her journey through Japan – the experience of being styled as a geisha in Kyoto. There, she wore an authentic multi-layered silk kimono and traditional make-up for the first time. She also shared an interesting cultural detail she learned during the experience: the more elaborate a geisha’s make-up is, the more it is intended to conceal imperfections or a lack of experience.
The evening brought more than just a memorable outfit. At the premiere, Schwarzjirg was delighted to reunite with her longtime friend Kerstin. She described the production of «Madama Butterfly» as outstanding and said it is truly a performance worth seeing.
