Rihanna, Robert Pattinson and more stars: Dior unveils an animated Christmas fairytale

The story takes viewers inside Christian Dior’s legendary atelier
French fashion house Dior has decided to surprise its audience with an unconventional Christmas campaign. Instead of a traditional commercial, the brand has unveiled an animated short film titled «Christian Dior’s Night in Color», featuring the voices of Robert Pattinson, Rihanna, Louis Garrel and several other celebrated actors and musicians.

The film was directed by French animator Sylvain Chomet, best known for «The Triplets of Belleville» and «The Illusionist». One of the project’s most distinctive features is its beautifully crafted, hand-drawn animation. Dior’s creative director Jonathan Anderson was also involved in bringing the film to life.

Set in the winter of 1949, the story unfolds at Dior’s Parisian atelier at 30 Avenue Montaigne. Just before the holidays, Christian Dior receives an unusual phone call: actress Marlene Dietrich is requesting a new dress for an upcoming film. As it turns out, the film’s director has decided to switch from black and white to color, meaning the actress needs an outfit that will look particularly striking on screen. Together with his assistants, the legendary couturier sets to work.

Robert Pattinson serves as the film’s narrator, while Louis Garrel lends his voice to Christian Dior himself. Camille Cottin voices Marlene Dietrich, and Rihanna brings the Lucky Star — one of the fashion house’s iconic symbols — to life. The star-studded cast also includes Josh O’Connor, LaKeith Stanfield, Greta Lee, Nadia Tereszkiewicz and Nine d’Urso.

Interestingly, the story is rooted in real fashion history. Marlene Dietrich was indeed a devoted admirer of Christian Dior’s designs and famously insisted on wearing his creations for her appearances and film roles.
