Actress Sophia Bush and former professional footballer Ashlyn Harris have secretly tied the knot. The couple held an intimate ceremony in New York State in the summer of 2025 but only revealed the news now – more than a year later. Sophia shared the news in an interview with Vogue about her upcoming memoir.
Harris’ children, Sloane and Ocean, as well as the couple’s close friends, were present for the celebration. Rather than having a large wedding, they opted for a deeply personal affair. After the ceremony, everyone walked around the property together, picked flowers and roasted marshmallows around a campfire in the evening.
«It was so special and completely free of pressure», Harris recalled.
Interestingly, the decision came about almost spontaneously. They simply called the city hall and decided to get married. A few days later, the couple arrived at a farm where they were planning to spend time with the children and their friends.
Sophia revealed that she had not even prepared an outfit for the occasion. She found an old black velvet dress with gold detailing in a box. Ashlyn chose a black suit paired with a cowboy-style hat.
The ceremony was officiated by their friend Nia. Within minutes, she completed the necessary paperwork online and became an officially authorized officiant.
The couple tucked their vows inside a book by American poet Mary Oliver. They then exchanged rings and took several photographs surrounded by nature. Bush said that this was exactly the atmosphere they wanted – without a large number of guests or the attention of the press.
After the wedding, Sophia and Ashlyn did not rush to make a public announcement. They traveled around the country and told their friends and family about the marriage in person. Only after everyone close to them knew did the couple decide to share the news publicly.
Sophia and Ashlyn first publicly confirmed their relationship in 2024. Before that, they had known each other as friends for many years. Over time, their friendship developed into a romantic relationship.
Bush now refers to Harris not as her partner, but as her wife.
Sophia will share more about their story in her first memoir, «And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress». The book will be released on October 27, 2026.
