$355 million: «Spider-Man» opens with record-breaking box office
And that’s just its opening weekend
The new «Spider-Man: Brand New Day», starring Tom Holland, has taken the global box office by storm. According to Bloomberg, the film earned $355 million in the United States during its opening weekend alone.
Its international performance proved just as impressive. Outside North America, the blockbuster grossed an additional $572 million, bringing its worldwide opening-weekend total to $927 million — just shy of the $1 billion mark.
As a result, «Spider-Man: Brand New Day» has delivered the second-biggest global opening in box office history, surpassed only by «Avengers: Endgame», which debuted with $1.2 billion in 2019.
China emerged as the film’s strongest international market, contributing $121 million, followed by the United Kingdom ($49 million), Mexico ($38.3 million) and South Korea ($25 million).
The film marks Tom Holland’s fourth outing as Spider-Man. The story continues after the world has forgotten Peter Parker’s existence. Forced to rebuild his life from scratch, Peter reconnects with his friends and the love of his life while trying to balance ordinary life with his responsibility to fight crime. Alongside Holland, the cast also includes Zendaya, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal and others.
Industry analysts predict that the film’s worldwide box office could ultimately surpass $2 billion.
