Kate Middleton makes first trip abroad since illness

The Princess arrives in Italy
The Princess of Wales has begun a two-day official visit to Italy, marking her first overseas trip since undergoing a prolonged course of treatment and returning to public duties. Her last solo foreign engagement took place in 2022, when she visited Denmark.
The destination of the trip is Reggio Emilia, a city renowned for the «Reggio Emilia» educational approach to early childhood development. The method, developed by educator Loris Malaguzzi after the Second World War, is based on the idea of unlocking a child’s potential through creativity, learning, and interaction with their environment.
In the city, the Princess was welcomed by the mayor and representatives of local authorities. Kate also spoke with children in Piazza Camillo Prampolini.
For the official engagement, Catherine chose an elegant business look: a light blue Edeline Lee suit with a draped blazer and high-waisted trousers, a white V-neck blouse, Ralph Lauren heels, and a matching handbag.

During the visit, the Princess of Wales is expected to receive the Primo Tricolore award for her contribution to the development of early childhood education programmes. In 2021, Kate founded a Royal Foundation initiative supporting early years development, making it one of the key pillars of her work.
The second day of the trip will include visits to preschools and an introduction to local traditions. The itinerary also features a countryside lunch in the Reggio Emilia area and a cooking workshop dedicated to traditional pasta-making. The region is considered Italy’s gastronomic heartland and the birthplace of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
