Kate Middleton wears a rose necklace at the Holi Festival of Colors

Embracing tradition
Catherine, Princess of Wales, spent a day in Leicester, where she joined members of the local Indian community in celebrating the Hindu festival of Holi. The city is known as a major centre of the South Asian diaspora in the United Kingdom, with around 35% of its residents having Indian heritage.

During her visit, the princess warmly interacted with local residents, showed support for family-run businesses and immersed herself in the culture of the community. She visited a sari shop, stopped by a family restaurant where she was treated to traditional tea and sweets, and also attended a community centre hosting the day’s festive programme, which included Bollywood dance performances and themed stage acts.

When the Princess of Wales was invited to try a few dance steps during a religious ceremony, she slipped off her shoes and, standing barefoot on the carpet, began to follow the movements.

For the occasion, the 44-year-old royal chose an elegant look in light tones, in keeping with the tradition of Holi, when guests typically wear light-coloured clothing. Kate stepped out in an ivory coat by Chris Kerr paired with a cream midi dress by Ralph Lauren featuring a pleated skirt. The look was completed with beige pumps and a pearl-and-rose necklace that was presented to the princess during her meeting with the community.
