Canadian singer Grimes, the former partner of billionaire Elon Musk, has revealed for the first time that she hasn’t seen their three children in nearly six months. The 36-year-old artist shared that she has been battling for custody of their 4-year-old son X Æ A-Xii, 3-year-old daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, and 2-year-old son Techno Mechanicus for over a year.
«I’ve been in court for a year in a state with unjust laws that restrict mothers’ rights. And I haven’t seen my kids for five months. That’s all I can say right now», — the singer shared on the social media platform X.
Moreover, the prolonged stress has left the artist unable to create new music, as the custody battle consumes all her energy. Grimes fears losing her children and going bankrupt due to the ongoing legal proceedings, leaving her with no resources for her art.
«The threat of losing my kids while going bankrupt fighting for them isn’t exactly conducive to creative thoughts. For the entire year, I’ve just been sleeping and crying every minute I wasn’t in court», — the singer admitted.
It’s worth noting that Grimes and Musk, who officially has 12 children with three women, separated in 2022 after four years of relationship. The reason Musk is seeking custody of their children has not been disclosed. However, according to the singer, her work is at the root of the conflict.
«I’ve spent a year fighting for mothers’ rights because my Instagram posts and modeling work were used as reasons why I shouldn’t be with my children. That’s all I can say publicly, as most of what I’ve gone through in recent years must remain behind closed doors», — she said.
