Tamara Thurner Presents «States of Motion» at Galerie Steiner in Vienna

An evening of contemporary art, expressive compositions and artistic encounters
Recently, Vienna-based contemporary artist Tamara Thurner opened her latest exhibition at Galerie Steiner, located in Vienna’s historic first district.
As part of a group exhibition, Thurner presented seven original paintings, including works from her series States of Motion.

The series places the heart at the centre of the artist’s visual language, exploring the many emotions and experiences that shape human relationships. Through expressive compositions, distinctive colour palettes and richly textured surfaces, Thurner examines the complexity of human emotions and their ever-changing nature.

Her artistic language combines abstraction with atmospheric depth. Symbols and underlying themes emerge organically from layers of colour, movement and texture, appearing to merge with the atmosphere of each painting rather than exist as separate, clearly defined forms.
This approach is also reflected in her butterfly-inspired works, which were exhibited alongside States of Motion. The butterfly becomes a symbol of transformation, personal growth and change, subtly woven into abstract, atmospheric compositions.

A distinctive feature of Thurner’s work is her use of fine glitter particles, which add another dimension through light and reflection. Depending on the lighting and the viewer’s position, different shimmering details emerge across the canvas. As the viewing angle changes, so does the appearance of each artwork, revealing new depths and subtle nuances. This interplay of light, texture and movement gives the paintings an almost lifelike quality, allowing them to reveal new facets with every viewing.

The vernissage brought together guests and art enthusiasts for an evening of artistic exchange. Visitors explored the exhibited works and engaged in conversation with the artists, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the gallery.

Beyond their visual impact, Thurner’s paintings invite individual interpretation and emotional connection. Her artistic practice also encompasses commissioned works.

Further exhibitions featuring Thurner’s work are planned in Vienna for November 2026.
The exhibition at Galerie Steiner runs until November 7, 2026.
