Sarah Jessica Parker, the star of the iconic series «Sex and the City», has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts degree by Northwestern University in the United States.
The 61-year-old actress shared the joyful news on her social media platforms, admitting that the occasion was a particularly meaningful moment in her life.
During the ceremony, Parker not only donned the traditional academic gown and mortarboard but also delivered the keynote commencement address to the graduating Class of 2026 at the United Center.
In her speech, the actress spoke candidly about uncertainty, the fear of entering a new chapter in life and the courage required to move forward despite doubts. According to Parker, these emotions are familiar to anyone standing on the threshold of significant change.
«I feel as though I’m experiencing something similar to what graduates feel as they prepare to begin a new chapter of their lives. Sometimes it seems as if you lack experience, or something feels intimidating or out of reach. Yet it is often through those very steps that the greatest achievements emerge», the actress shared.
She also emphasised the importance of preserving one’s individuality. Throughout her career, Parker said she was frequently advised to change her appearance, working style or creative choices. However, she believes her best decision was to listen to advice while always retaining the right to make her own choices.
«Some of the most important victories come precisely when we dare to do the things that frighten us», Sarah Jessica Parker concluded.
It is worth noting that Parker never pursued a university degree, having launched her professional career as a child performer on stage and in film. University representatives explained that the honour was awarded in recognition of her longstanding support for the arts and humanities, as well as her significant contribution to culture as an actress, producer and public figure.
