Previously unreleased recordings of princess Diana to be shown in Cannes

The new documentary series «Diana Unheard» will be presented in Cannes.
The series features previously unreleased audio recordings of conversations between Diana and her friend James Colthurst from 1991. Across several hours of tapes, the princess speaks candidly about her life, love, her marriage to Prince Charles and the royal family.
These very conversations once formed the basis of Andrew Morton’s acclaimed book «Diana: Her True Story». Now, parts of the recordings will be heard by an international audience for the first time, Deadline reports.
Andrew Morton and James Colthurst were also involved in the making of the series. They will appear in the documentary and share their memories and insights into the recordings.
According to the creators, they wanted to portray Diana not simply as a woman who endured difficult moments within the royal family. Instead, the recordings reveal her as someone who sought to speak about her own life and retain control over her story.
«In creating Diana Unheard, we wanted to challenge the narrative in which Diana was too often portrayed merely as a victim of circumstance. This is Diana choosing how to tell her own story and risking everything to make sure her voice is heard.»
The series was produced by British company Love Monday TV, which has previously worked on documentary projects about the British monarchy. Its credits include «Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors» for ITV and «William & Harry: Love & Betrayal» for Channel 5.
The project consists of three parts and will be one of the major documentary premieres at the international MIPCOM trade fair in Cannes.
