Angelina Jolie on freedom, creativity and a life without borders for L’Officiel
«I want to live like a nomad for a while»
Angelina Jolie is the cover star of the new issue of L’Officiel, appearing on four different covers of the magazine. In an intimate interview, the 51-year-old actress and filmmaker spoke about life after her children grew up, her new creative plans, her humanitarian work and her desire to travel the world more.
For the photoshoot, Jolie wore Fendi and Ferragamo, as well as pieces from her own creative project, Atelier Jolie. The photographs were taken by photographer Norman Jean Roy.
The actress admitted that she does not want to be tied to a single city. Now that her children are adults, she plans to spend more time outside the United States, expand Atelier Jolie into other countries and continue her work in Cambodia.
«I don’t really plan to have a permanent base. I would like my family to have a home — a place where the family photographs are kept and where you can do all those mom things. And then I want to live like a nomad for a while», the actress shared. She added that her plans include more travel, working «in the field», riding motorcycles and even flying airplanes.
«I’m not someone who takes a vacation, goes shopping or does anything like that», the actress said.
Jolie’s work as a filmmaker also took an important place in the conversation. In her film «Without Blood», she explores the consequences of war and the lives of people after a conflict has ended.
What interested her was not the violence itself, but what happens to a person afterward. For Jolie, it was important to portray the complicated period that follows a conflict and to talk about a pain that does not disappear simply because the fighting has stopped.
«The film is less about forgiveness and more about honesty», Jolie emphasized.
Her years of working in conflict zones have also profoundly shaped her worldview: «One of the ideas of the film is that we return to where we broke. I think that’s true for many people».
Speaking about her humanitarian work, the actress noted that her approach to helping others has changed over the years. While emergency assistance was once her main focus, she now wants to devote more attention to projects that help communities become self-sufficient.
«When I started, 40 million people had been forced to leave their homes. Now it’s 115 million. That affected me», she said.
Angelina admitted that the scale of the problems can sometimes leave her feeling powerless. That is why she wants to look not only for ways to help people here and now, but also for concrete solutions for the future.
Despite her desire to travel more and work around the world, family remains an important part of this new chapter in Jolie’s life.
The actress is proud that her six children have grown into independent people.
«They are definitely independent people. And that makes me very proud», she said. Jolie is now learning how to be a mother in a new way — supporting her children without trying to live their lives for them.
«You want to support this person who has a life separate from yours and so much potential in their own mind», the actress explained.
