Princess Diana’s former weekend retreat listed for $33.4 million
The estate where she had her famous conversation with Camilla
London’s historic Ormeley Lodge, where Princess Diana regularly spent her weekends, has been put on the market with an asking price of $33.4 million. According to British media reports, the estate was also the setting for Diana’s famous conversation with Camilla Parker Bowles, who was in a relationship with the then Prince Charles at the time.
For more than fifty years, Ormeley Lodge belonged to socialite Lady Annabel Goldsmith, who passed away last year at the age of 91. She often described herself as Diana’s «second mother» and recalled that the Princess visited almost every weekend with Princes William and Harry. The iconic London private members’ club Annabel’s was named in her honour by her first husband, Mark Birley, who founded the club.
Located between Ham Common and Richmond Park, the estate dates back to around 1714, spanning the transition between the reign of Queen Anne and the Georgian era. Covering nearly 1,500 square metres, the mansion blends English Baroque architecture with elegant Neoclassical influences.
The interiors retain many original period features, including soaring ceilings, original fireplaces, ornate plasterwork and large sash windows. The residence also boasts a grand entrance hall with an impressive staircase, several formal reception rooms, a cosy library, a wine cellar and separate guest apartments. During Lady Goldsmith’s lifetime, Ormeley Lodge became renowned for its lavish summer parties, attracting members of the British aristocracy, politicians, celebrities and the Royal Family.
The estate’s grounds, extending over more than 0.9 hectares, are equally impressive. Beyond decorative 19th-century wrought-iron gates lie flowering meadows, an orchard, a kitchen garden, an aviary, an all-weather tennis court, a swimming pool, as well as several cottages and additional estate buildings.
