Final Verdict: Matthew Perry’s Assistant Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

For the fatal injection administered to the actor

The case surrounding the death of Matthew Perry, star of the TV series Friends, has officially come to a close. A federal court in Los Angeles delivered the final sentence to one of the key figures in the case — the actor’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa. He was sentenced to 41 months in prison — nearly three and a half years — according to The Guardian.

The court found that Kenneth Iwamasa had helped Perry obtain ketamine and administered injections to him despite having no medical training. Investigators revealed that in the five days leading up to the actor’s death, Iwamasa had given him 27 injections.

One of those injections proved fatal on October 28, 2023, when the 54-year-old actor was found dead in the jacuzzi of his Los Angeles home.

According to the court, Kenneth was fully aware of the actor’s long-standing struggle with addiction yet continued supplying him with the drug. Prosecutors also stated that after Perry’s death, he attempted to conceal evidence.

Although Iwamasa’s lawyer argued that his client acted at Perry’s own request and was psychologically dependent on his employer, the court did not accept those arguments.

During the hearing, he addressed the actor’s family with an apology: “I am deeply sorry. I will always regret my illegal actions.”

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered two years of supervised release and imposed a $10,000 fine.

Kenneth Iwamasa became the last of five defendants in the case to be sentenced. Earlier, physician Salvador Plasencia received 30 months in prison for supplying ketamine to Perry. Another doctor, Mark Chavez, was sentenced to eight months of house arrest and three years of supervision. Another participant in the scheme, Erik Fleming, received a two-year prison sentence.

The harshest punishment was handed to Jasveen Sangha, whom American media dubbed the “Ketamine Queen.” She was sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling the drugs that led to the actor’s death.
