Style showdown: Sydney Sweeney recreates Marilyn Monroe’s legendary look

A Draped vintage gown
While the fashion world was busy discussing Marc Jacobs’ spring collection, Sydney Sweeney staged a triumph of her own, eclipsing everyone on the red carpet in Santa Barbara.
The actress recreated one of Marilyn Monroe’s most iconic looks, offering a striking reminder that she wears the title of Hollywood’s new icon with every justification.

At the 41st Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Sweeney received the Virtuosos Award for her role in the film «Christy». For the celebratory evening, her stylist Molly Dickson selected a gown with history: a vintage Ceil Chapman design from the 1950s.
It was in this very dress that Hollywood’s ultimate blonde posed for the cover of Life magazine in 1952.

Featuring an off-the-shoulder neckline and sculptural draping that accentuated the figure, the gown perfectly highlighted the actress’s silhouette while preserving the aesthetic of Hollywood’s golden age.
The look was completed with beige patent leather Ferragamo slingbacks adorned with the brand’s signature bow and gold-toned hardware – an elegant finishing touch that seamlessly reinforced the retro mood of the appearance.
Ceil Chapman was the label of the New York–based designer who created cocktail and evening dresses throughout the 1940s to 1960s. Her distinguished clientele included Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Aretha Franklin, and Marilyn Monroe.
