Meghan Markle returns to the screen

After an eight-year hiatus
After an eight-year break, Meghan Markle is set to appear on screen once again. The Duchess of Sussex will play herself in a new Amazon MGM Studios project titled «Close Friends». According to Variety, the role is a small one, but it marks the actress’s first step toward returning to the industry.
Insiders say Meghan made the decision to come back to set after much consideration. Over the past few years, she had received numerous offers, but «Close Friends» seemed to her the most suitable project for reviving her acting career.

Witnesses noted that Markle appeared calm and happy on set, engaging warmly with the crew and her co-stars.
The film also stars Brie Larson, Lily Collins, and Jack Quaid. It is directed by Jason Orley, with a screenplay by Isaac Aptaker, who drew inspiration from his own life story. The release date has not yet been announced.

Meghan ended her acting career in 2017 when she left the series «Suits», where she played a young lawyer. This happened shortly after her engagement to Prince Harry. Since then, she has only appeared in documentary projects and focused on podcasting.
Meanwhile, Page Six reports that Hollywood’s interest in Meghan and Harry has noticeably waned. According to industry sources, many producers and studios believe the couple’s story has run its course. Moreover, collaboration with them is said to be challenging: Harry is rumored to be unpunctual, while Meghan is described as overly demanding and not always polite to colleagues.
