Billie Eilish Challenges Billionaires: Donates $11 Million

Leading by Example
Multiple Grammy Award winner Billie Eilish has called on billionaires to share their wealth with those in need — and demonstrated this herself.
At the 2025 WSJ Innovator Awards ceremony, held recently at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the 23-year-old delivered an emotional speech addressing some of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
«We are living in dark and troubling times. If you have money — use it for good. There are people in this room who have far more than I do. If you’re a billionaire — then why?» the singer said, addressing guests including Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan.
During her speech, Eilish emphasized that today’s world «needs more empathy than ever before.» She did not stop at words — she announced that she is donating $11.5 million to organizations fighting food insecurity and climate change.
The WSJ Innovator Awards, organized annually by The Wall Street Journal, honor individuals who «change the game» in their respective fields. This year’s awardees, in addition to Billie Eilish, included Spike Lee (film), Ben Stiller (entertainment), Hailey Bieber (beauty), and Priscilla Chan (philanthropy in science), among others.
