David Beckham received an award for protecting children’s rights

The World Economic Forum recently began in the Swiss city of Davos, opening with the presentation of the Crystal Awards for philanthropy.
British football star David Beckham was honored with a statuette for his efforts to protect children’s rights worldwide. The athlete was recognized for his «commitment to using his fame to achieve critical social change,» reports WWD.
Beckham is well-known for his active humanitarian work, having served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for over 20 years.
During the award ceremony, David delivered a speech on children’s rights, particularly focusing on the challenges faced by girls. The former footballer emphasized that discrimination remains a pressing issue hindering girls’ development around the world.
«Today, there are more children in distress and at risk globally than at any other time in modern history. And the most vulnerable children always face the greatest challenges — especially girls. Girls are held back by poverty, held back by violence, held back by discrimination,» said the 49-year-old Beckham.
The former Real Madrid midfielder also expressed his concerns about the limitations placed on girls, drawing from his experience as a parent.
«I am fortunate to be the father of three boys and one wonderful girl. I want my daughter Harper to have the same opportunities as her brothers, and this should be the norm for all girls. Being a girl should not determine what you can do, where you can go, or who you can become. Imagine the amazing possibilities if we can unlock their potential and support their growth,» concluded the athlete.
