Zendaya, Charlize Theron and other stars appear in the long-awaited trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

Universal Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for The Odyssey, an epic large-scale adaptation of Homer’s legendary poem. The film stars Matt Damon in the lead role.
According to Variety, the story centers on Odysseus’s return home after the Trojan War and his perilous, trial-filled journey across seas and distant lands.
In the trailer, the hero and his companions survive a shipwreck, wander through ominous caves, confront wild beasts, and even encounter figures risen from the dead.
Alongside Damon, the cast includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo. Tom Holland portrays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, while Anne Hathaway takes on the role of his wife, Penelope.
The Odyssey is directed by Christopher Nolan, who also wrote the screenplay and serves as producer alongside his wife, Emma Thomas. Nolan’s previous film, Oppenheimer, won seven Academy Awards in 2024.
Filming took place in various locations around the world, employing state-of-the-art IMAX technology.
The film is set to premiere on July 17, 2026.
