What to expect from Vienna’s Silvesterpfad 2024/25

Vienna’s Silvesterpfad annually attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city center and is one of the largest New Year’s celebrations on the continent. This traditional event, held for the 33rd time this year, once again promises to be unforgettable for everyone.
On December 31, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 2:00 AM, Vienna’s city center will transform into a massive open-air festival space, delighting guests across eight stages — seven of which are located in the city center, and one at the Winter Market near the Ferris Wheel in Prater — with a diverse program.
For instance, at the largest of the eight stages on Rathausplatz, «Countdown Strauss» will mark the official start of the Johann Strauss Year 2025. A 100-voice super choir will perform on stage alongside professional instrumentalists. A standout moment for visitors will be the performance by musicians Ankathi Koi and Max Mutzke, accompanied by a band led by Martin Grubinger, delivering an impressive new arrangement of the world-famous «Blue Danube Waltz.» Before and after this, DJ Alex List, one of the most popular DJs, will create the perfect dance mood with his beats, turning Rathausplatz into a gigantic dance floor.
The Freyung stage promises an exciting musical program at Vienna’s Silvesterpfad, appealing to fans of various music genres — from heartfelt rock ballads to Austropop hits and vintage pop-rock classics.
On New Year’s Eve, Vienna’s Graben will become Europe’s largest ballroom, inviting dance enthusiasts to enjoy the festive atmosphere with elegant waltz moves. The Schwebach dance school will offer last-minute outdoor dance lessons, ensuring every guest is ready for midnight.
The Winter Market at Riesenradplatz invites everyone to New Year’s celebrations starting at noon, with hot drinks, delicious treats, and plenty of entertainment in Prater. From 8:00 PM, DJ R. Simon will provide the first dance rhythms. Later, Sam Brisbe & FRIENDS will energize the crowd with their pop, soul, and reggae beats, creating a vibrant New Year’s Eve.
For those who want to greet the first day of the year musically, the traditional New Year’s Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic will once again be broadcast live at Stephansplatz and the Winter Market at Riesenradplatz in Prater. From 11:15 AM, visitors can enjoy the sounds of the world-famous orchestra in the open air.
In addition to musical entertainment, food lovers will also be delighted by Vienna’s Silvesterpfad 2024/2025: over two dozen gastronomes will offer local delicacies, sweets, and hot drinks. Of course, there will also be plenty of sparkling beverages for toasting.
