Venezuelan Politician María Corina Machado Awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

Donald Trump Overlooked
Today, October 10, the Nobel Committee announced the laureate of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize — Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado. The official statement appeared on the Committee’s verified account on the social media platform X.
«For her tireless efforts to advance the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and her fight for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy,» the statement reads.

Despite widespread predictions that Donald Trump would be the leading contender for this year’s award, the Committee chose to honor Machado — one of the most prominent figures of Latin America’s opposition movement. She was described as «an example of civic courage» and «a leader who managed to unite a once deeply divided opposition.»
«The 2025 Peace Prize goes to a brave and devoted defender of freedom — a woman who keeps the flame of democracy burning amid growing darkness,» the Nobel Committee’s press office stated.

According to Committee representatives, Machado spent much of the past year in hiding but refused to leave Venezuela despite threats to her life. Her resilience and determination, the statement emphasized, have inspired millions of Venezuelans.
As the Nobel Committee summed up, «This was a choice of ballots, not bullets.»

It is worth noting that 338 candidates were nominated for this year’s Peace Prize, including 244 individuals and 94 organizations — among them U.S. President Donald Trump.
