Trump appoints Stallone, Gibson, and Voight as Hollywood envoys

An unprecedented position
President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, and Jon Voight as special envoys to Hollywood, Variety reports.
«These three very talented individuals will be my eyes and ears, and I will act on what they propose,» the politician declared, predicting a «golden age of Hollywood.»

According to Trump, the actors’ mission will be to revive Hollywood, which has faced significant challenges over the past four years. Increasingly, studios prefer to shoot films outside the U.S. — in Europe, Canada, the U.K., and Australia, where tax incentives are available. Additionally, international box office revenues for American films have been declining.
China, for example, was once a major market for American films but has recently favored locally produced content, writes The New York Times.
Typically, U.S. presidents appoint special envoys to other countries or regions of importance to the United States, coordinating the White House administration’s interactions with foreign governments. The position of «Hollywood special envoys» is described as «unprecedented» by Politico.

Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight have publicly supported Trump since his first campaign in 2016. Mel Gibson voiced his support for the politician during the 2024 election race.
Stallone is known as a screenwriter, actor, and director of the Rocky boxing saga and the Rambo series about a Vietnam War veteran. Gibson, who started his career as Mad Max in the iconic trilogy, won two Oscars in the mid-1990s for the drama Braveheart.

Voight gained fame in the late 1960s with Midnight Cowboy and has mostly appeared in supporting roles in the 21st century. He is also the father of actress Angelina Jolie.
