The royal family has prepared a plan in the event of Kate Middleton’s death

«Operation Reading Bridge»
Buckingham Palace has prepared a specific protocol in case of the death of the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. This was revealed by royal commentator Bertrand Deckers in his book «Kate — The Day When…», as reported by French newspaper Le Figaro.
The operation has been given the codename «Operation Reading Bridge», in honor of the town of Reading, where Kate was born. The name was reportedly chosen by Prince William himself. According to the author, this is not only a symbolic gesture but «almost a declaration of love» from the heir to the British throne.
Interestingly, the abbreviation O.R.B. also refers to a sculpture near the Tower of London — a globe topped with a cross. This symbolizes the orb, traditionally placed in the monarch’s left hand during the coronation.
As a reminder, in March 2024, Kate Middleton announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer. In January 2025, it was revealed that the disease had entered remission following a successful course of chemotherapy.
Operation Reading Bridge is part of a long-standing royal tradition of preparing for potential tragedies. For instance, Prince Philip’s death was carried out under «Operation Forth Bridge,» Queen Elizabeth II’s under «Operation London Bridge,» and a plan for King Charles III is already in place under the name «Operation Menai Bridge.»
