The Prince and Princess of Brunei Reveal the Name of Their Newborn Daughter

And Share Her First Photo

Prince Abdul Mateen and Princess Anisha of Brunei announced the birth of their daughter last weekend. The entire nation joyfully marked the happy occasion: the event was celebrated with a 17-gun salute fired from the grounds of Istana Nurul Iman Palace, the official residence of the Sultan.

The newborn’s name has now been revealed. The young parents announced that they have named their daughter Zahra Mariam Bolkiah and shared her first photograph.

Mateen and Anisha revealed in October last year that they were expecting their first child, posting a black-and-white photograph of themselves holding hands on a balcony.

«And then there were three,» the caption read.

According to Bruneian media, the baby has not entered the line of succession, as the 1959 Succession and Regency Proclamation, enshrined in Brunei’s Constitution, stipulates that only males are eligible to inherit the throne.
