Taylor Swift faces new lawsuit

The reason is the title of her album
Taylor Swift is facing a new lawsuit over the title of her album The Life of a Showgirl. The claim was filed by Las Vegas-based artist Maren Wade, who believes the album title is too similar to her project Confessions of a Showgirl. Under this brand, Wade had been writing a column since 2014 and later developed a show and published a book. In 2015, she officially registered the title as a trademark.
According to Wade, Swift’s team was aware of the similarity, as they had attempted to register their own title but were refused due to its resemblance to the existing one. Despite this, the album was still released.
Wade claims that this has harmed her work and misled audiences, as both projects target a similar demographic. She is seeking compensation and also aims to prohibit the use of the album title.
Wade’s attorney, Jamie Parkkinen, stated that they respect Swift’s creativity and success, but emphasized that every creator has the right to protect their brand.
«We have great respect for Swift’s talent and success, but trademark law exists to ensure that creators at every level can protect what they have built», she said.

Swift must now either challenge the claims in court or attempt to resolve the dispute by acquiring the rights to the title. The singer has not yet commented publicly on the situation.
According to Wade, the use of a similar title has already damaged her reputation, as some members of the public believe she borrowed the idea from Swift.
It is worth noting that Taylor Swift owns one of the largest trademark portfolios in the entertainment industry, with more than 170 registered or pending marks.
