Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence has revealed for the first time that she auditioned for a role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. According to the star, she was among the contenders for the role of Sharon Tate, but ultimately was not cast – allegedly because of her appearance.

The 35-year-old Oscar winner recalled the experience during an episode of the Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz podcast. Lawrence said that once rumors about her possible involvement in the project began circulating, social media erupted with criticism.

«Well, he wanted to consider me for the role, but everyone was like, «She’s not beautiful enough to play Sharon Tate». After that, they dropped me», Lawrence said. «I’m almost certain that’s how it happened – or he never seriously considered me at all, and the internet just went out of its way to call me ugly», she added.

In the end, the role of Sharon Tate went to Margot Robbie. Her casting was supported by Debra Tate, the sister of the late actress. Even before the film’s premiere, Debra publicly explained her choice, stating that Robbie more closely matched Sharon Tate’s image in terms of physical appearance.

Lawrence also noted that similar situations had occurred more than once throughout her career. She recalled auditioning for Twilight as well, but not landing a role there either. «Apparently, I wasn’t beautiful enough then either», she joked.
