The legal dispute over Amy Winehouse’s personal belongings has ended in a defeat for her father. London’s High Court has dismissed Mitch Winehouse’s lawsuit, in which he claimed that Amy’s former stylist Naomi Parry and her friend Catriona Gourlay auctioned off the late singer’s personal possessions without the family’s permission, earning more than $1.4 million in the process.

Under the court’s ruling, Amy Winehouse’s father must pay the two women nearly £950,000. He has also been ordered to cover all of their legal costs, according to The Guardian.

Mitch Winehouse launched the case in late 2025, arguing that the women had no legal right to sell Amy’s belongings.

The dispute concerned more than 150 items that were sold at auctions between 2021 and 2023, including stage costumes, everyday clothing, handbags, jewellery and other personal possessions belonging to the singer.

However, Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay maintained that Amy had personally gifted many of those items to them during her lifetime. They also stressed that they had never concealed either the existence of the items or their intention to auction them.

The court accepted their argument, ruling that the allegations made by the singer’s father were unfounded and had caused the women significant harm — damaging their reputations, careers, financial circumstances and even their psychological well-being.

Amy Winehouse died on 23 July 2011 at her home in London. She was just 27 years old. Her death was caused by alcohol poisoning, which led to cardiac arrest.
