The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev and three-time Olympic champion Shaun White have called it quits less than a year after announcing their engagement.

The actress and the snowboarder began their romance in 2019. In October of last year, the 39-year-old athlete proposed to his 36-year-old partner.

According to the Daily Mail, citing a source close to the couple, the breakup was a difficult decision for both. Nevertheless, they have remained on good terms, emphasizing that they parted ways «with love and mutual respect.»

Speculation about their split was confirmed when, on September 7, Nina Dobrev appeared at the premiere of Eternity at the Toronto International Film Festival without her engagement ring. Moreover, the actress deleted from her social media the post announcing their engagement, which featured photos of the romantic candlelit proposal at a restaurant.
