What’s happening with the brand?

Another major shake-up in the fashion world. Today, it was announced that the collaboration between the Italian fashion house Gucci and its current creative director, Sabato De Sarno, has come to an end.

The designer is leaving his position two years after his appointment. The upcoming show at Milan Fashion Week on February 25 will be prepared by Gucci’s design team.

The reasons for this decision have not been disclosed. However, according to industry insiders, De Sarno is likely departing because he did not meet the financial expectations set by the company’s leadership.

It is worth noting that the French luxury conglomerate Kering has been trying for several years to revive Gucci, the flagship brand in its portfolio. Gucci accounts for half of the group’s total sales and two-thirds of its profits.

However, the brand has been one of the hardest hit by the weakening demand for luxury goods and accessories. According to The Wall Street Journal, this is due to internal business challenges as well as its heavy reliance on the Chinese market, which is experiencing an economic downturn.

«I would like to express my deep gratitude to Sabato for his passion and dedication to Gucci. I am sincerely grateful to him for honoring the craftsmanship and heritage of the fashion house with such devotion,» said Stefano Cantino, Gucci’s CEO.

«Every important project is built on the passion, intelligence, and heart of extraordinary people. To them, I say: always remember to smile. Because that is the measure of whether you stay true to yourself in the face of any opportunity or challenge. Saying ‘thank you’ is probably not enough. But today, my smile is for you,» said De Sarno.

To recall, the Italian designer joined Gucci from Valentino, where he was the fashion director, overseeing both men’s and women’s collections. Before joining Valentino in 2009, he worked at Dolce & Gabbana and Prada.

The announcement of a new creative director will be made soon. We will be closely following the updates!
