Royal wedding: princess Maria Carolina of Liechtenstein ties the knot

A closer look at the bride’s ensemble
Princess Maria Carolina, granddaughter of the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein, Hans-Adam II, has married. Her groom is Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer, an investment banker and heir to one of Venezuela’s wealthiest families. Although the couple resides in London, they chose to celebrate their wedding in Vaduz, the capital of the Principality of Liechtenstein, as a tribute to tradition.
The ceremony took place at the Cathedral of St. Florin in Vaduz, followed by a grand reception at Vaduz Castle with family and close friends. Walking down the aisle, Maria Carolina wore a delicate lace gown, paired with a long veil and the renowned Habsburg Tiara. This jewel, crafted around 1890 by the Viennese court jeweler from silver, gold, and diamonds, is designed in the style of a «diamond kokoshnik». The tiara was last seen in 2021 at the wedding of Princess Maria Anunciata, Maria Carolina’s cousin.
The bride was escorted to the altar by her father, while her bridesmaids helped carry the lengthy train.
Maria Carolina was born into the family of Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie. Through her mother’s lineage, she descends from the last King of Bavaria, Ludwig III. She cannot claim the throne, however, as Liechtenstein follows the Salic law of succession. Nevertheless, she is often described as Europe’s wealthiest princess – the fortune of her grandfather, Prince Hans-Adam II, even surpasses that of Britain’s King Charles III.
