«Proud of My Roots»: Orlando Bloom plans to obtain an irish passport

Trading Hollywood for Europe?
It seems that Orlando Bloom has decided to take a significant step following his split from Katy Perry. The 48-year-old British actor announced that he has officially submitted the paperwork to obtain an Irish passport.
The Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings star explained that both professional and personal reasons influenced his decision. Bloom recalled that his grandfather was originally from Northern Ireland, which means the new passport will not only serve as a way to strengthen his family ties but also open doors for work opportunities across Europe.
«I will be getting an Irish passport. My grandfather was indeed from Northern Ireland», the actor said in a conversation on Virgin Radio.
The film star added that he takes pride in his heritage: «And I also like the fact that I have Irish roots. That’s it».
Bloom emphasized that an EU passport would make his work life considerably easier. He recalled his time working in the Czech Republic, when dealing with paperwork proved to be time-consuming:
«When I was working in Prague for a while, there were a lot of new documents to sign – it would have been much simpler with a European passport».
Currently, Bloom is promoting his new film project The Price of Victory, in which he portrays an Irish boxer. The premiere is scheduled for September 5.
