On Thursday, June 5, Jennifer Lopez fans received a real surprise — the first trailer for the long-awaited film «Kiss of the Spider Woman» was released, showing the star in an entirely new role. The artist impressed viewers not only with her dramatic performance but also with her striking transformation: in the film, she appears as a stunning blonde, which caused a real stir online.
«This is incredible!» enthusiastic fans wrote on social media. Some are even predicting an Oscar nomination for her performance.
The film is an adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical of the same name, which was based on the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig. The musical’s script was written by Terrence McNally, with music by the duo John Kander and Fred Ebb.
In the film, Lopez plays Aurora — a movie diva imagined by hairdresser Luis Molina while he is in prison. In Molina’s fantasies, his heroine is a spider woman who seduces and destroys her victims with a kiss.
Filming began in New Jersey in April 2024 after several months of rehearsals. The premiere took place at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and «Kiss of the Spider Woman» will be released in theaters on October 10.
By the way, the previous film adaptation, directed by Héctor Babenco in 1985, as well as the Broadway musical, won numerous awards and rave reviews — including seven Tony Awards.
