France’s highest honor
Musician, producer, and Louis Vuitton men’s creative director Pharrell Williams has been awarded one of France’s highest honors – the Legion of Honor. The 52-year-old artist was named a Knight (Chevalier) for his «exceptional contribution to culture and society».
The ceremony took place at the Élysée Palace during Bastille Day celebrations. An official statement noted that Williams «significantly elevated France’s cultural influence among younger generations», according to WWD.
Alongside Pharrell, the prestigious award was also given to singer Sylvie Vartan, actress Léa Drucker, and author Marc Levy.
The Legion of Honor is France’s most prestigious civilian award, established by Napoleon in 1802. Past recipients include Nelson Mandela, Bob Dylan, and Steven Spielberg.
