Before finally making it to Stanglwirt, I tried to book five (!) times – all without success, everything was already fully booked. And this, mind you, at a hotel with over 250 rooms. Still, they’re consistently sold out long before the season begins – a testament to the hotel’s prestige. So when I finally spotted an available room, I didn’t hesitate for a second – and on the very first day, I understood why people keep coming back here year after year.

It’s a family-run hotel with a 400-year history, and you feel it in everything – from the heartfelt welcome to the smallest thoughtful touches.

Everyone has stayed here – from world champions to Hollywood stars. You’ll find their photos on the hotel’s Wall of Fame.

What stayed with me the most is the hotel’s own farm, which supplies fresh produce for the kitchen. Even the butter for your breakfast croissant is handmade. Everything is so natural and sustainable, you genuinely feel like part of a larger ecosystem.

Check out the lobby overlooking the riding arena: a spacious room with panoramic windows, stone floors, and cozy sofas, where you can see real Lipizzaner horses – among the best in their class. This spot feels like the hotel’s spiritual heart, and the champagne selection is fantastic – from Krug to rare biodynamic bruts.

The hotel is located in the village of Going am Wilden Kaiser, just an hour from Innsbruck and a bit over that from Munich. Despite its secluded feel, it’s perfectly balanced: ski slopes are nearby in winter, hiking trails abound in summer, and you’ll also find lakes and golf courses in the area.

Stanglwirt is also an ecolodge, meaning everything is built with sustainability in mind: wooden furniture, organic materials, natural cosmetics. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered.

The SPA is one of the biggest reasons to come to Stanglwirt – no exaggeration. This is not just a relaxation area, but a 12,000 m² wellness world.

Every detail is carefully planned: there’s an adults-only section for peace and quiet, and a separate family zone where kids can unwind too.

A heads-up: in the adult zone, like in most of Austria, nudity is the norm. Swimsuits are actually frowned upon – staff may ask you to leave if you show up in one.

You’ll find numerous saunas (Finnish, herbal, steam), infrared cabins, a salt cave, and heated waterbeds where you can float and gaze at the mountains – or just lose track of time entirely. The entire space is decorated in a cozy Alpine style with stone, wood, and natural light.

The breathtaking mountain views are the star here – every morning feels like waking up in a postcard. The region is a pristine oasis, with pure air, silence, and nature all around.

Despite its secluded charm, it’s easy to get to nearby towns or ski resorts.

Another major plus: the hotel’s private farm. All the food served is grown right here – fresh, sustainable, and full of flavor. It’s not just food, it’s the taste of Tyrol in every bite.

And of course, the SPA and adult-only zones are big advantages.

⚠️ Cons

I personally loved everything about Stanglwirt. But if you dig through reviews, you might find some drawbacks: during peak season, it can get noisy, crowded, and pricey. Also, it’s frequently sold out. The location is quite remote – without a car, it might be tricky. The «Alpine chic» decor – lots of wood and rustic charm – isn’t for everyone. It didn’t bother me, but it’s worth noting.

One last point: I wouldn’t recommend using the hotel’s dry cleaning service. They ruined one of my t-shirts, and another item I asked to be ironed was returned wrinkled and folded instead of on a hanger.
