Number of the day: Britney Spears sells her music catalogue for $200 million

A lucrative deal!
Britney Spears, the pop princess of the 2000s, has sold the rights to her biggest hits for an astonishing $200 million.
According to BBC News, while the official details of the contract remain undisclosed, it has been revealed that the artist and Primary Wave finalized the agreement in December of last year. Western media outlets are already calling it one of the most high-profile deals in the entertainment industry in recent years, drawing comparisons to Justin Bieber’s catalogue sale for a similar amount.

Representatives for the singer have declined to comment. And although Britney remains one of the most successful pop artists of her generation, she stated in a 2024 interview that she would «never return to the music industry».
Among the hits that have now passed to Primary Wave are iconic tracks such as Baby One More Time, Oops!… I Did It Again, Toxic, Gimme More, Everytime, Piece of Me, (You Drive Me) Crazy, and Hold It Against Me, among others. The company will be able to license these songs for use in films, commercials, and television series, or grant rights to other artists for covers and remixes.

It is worth noting that Primary Wave has previously acquired the catalogues of Prince, Whitney Houston, and The Notorious B.I.G.
