Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour turn out to be relatives

According to a study by Ancestry
It has emerged that actress Meryl Streep and Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour are connected by more than just a культ film. They are distant relatives. This was reported by representatives of the international company Ancestry, which specializes in genealogical research and DNA testing.
According to the researchers, Streep and Wintour are fifth cousins: they share a common great-great-great-great-grandmother and great-great-great-great-grandfather. Their family roots trace back to Elizabeth Kinsey and Thomas Smith, who lived in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. However, the paths of their descendants diverged long ago: Anna was born in London, while Meryl was born in the city of Summit, New Jersey.
The genealogical company made this discovery after analyzing «billions of historical records and family trees».

Ironically, it is Wintour who is widely considered the prototype for Miranda Priestly – the character from the film «The Devil Wears Prada», portrayed by Streep.
For many years, Wintour reacted sharply to comparisons with the character, but over time she softened her stance. She described the film as «exceptionally engaging and very witty», singling out Meryl Streep’s performance in particular. In December 2024, Wintour diplomatically responded to a question about a possible resemblance to Miranda: «That is for the audience and the people I work with to decide», she noted.
As a reminder, the world premiere of the second installment of «The Devil Wears Prada» is scheduled for May 1. Earlier, the film’s promotional tour kicked off in Mexico City, where Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep made appearances.
