An Interpretation of the Burka and Bags Carried on Sticks

The fashion house Louis Vuitton, under the creative direction of Nicolas Ghesquière, presented its new Fall–Winter collection. The show took place in the courtyard of the Louvre Palace, where an impressive large-scale scenography was created especially for the occasion.

The runway was transformed into a symbolic mountain landscape inspired by the valleys of the Jura Mountains — a region located near the birthplace of the brand’s founder, Louis Vuitton. The atmosphere of mountains, travel, and life close to nature became the central theme of the show.

On the runway appeared looks reminiscent of characters from mountain legends — shepherds, wanderers, and nomads. The collection featured various interpretations of the burka, the traditional Caucasian fur cloak. The designer reimagined it as voluminous capes, cloaks, and coats. The looks were complemented by wool skirts, ponchos, snood scarves, bombers with shearling collars, and quilted leather jackets.

A particularly striking detail was the bags carried by the models on sticks — resembling the bundles of travelers setting off on a long journey.

At the same time, Nicolas Ghesquière continued to develop the medieval aesthetic he has explored in previous seasons. This was especially evident in the headwear: models walked the runway wearing bonnets, hats with twisted brims, and elongated cone-shaped headpieces reminiscent of silhouettes from ancient engravings.
