Marc Jacobs unveils spring collection inspired by the theme of legacy

Ahead of Fashion Week

In New York, Marc Jacobs presented his new spring collection – once again staying true to tradition by showing outside the official Fashion Week schedule, which begins on February 11.

The designer drew inspiration from the archival work of fellow fashion visionaries. Jacobs openly acknowledged references to Yves Saint Laurent’s couture collections from 1965, Perry Ellis’s work from 1993, Helmut Lang’s 1995 collections, as well as his own runway shows from the 2000s and 2010s.

The influence of diverse movements within the fashion industry is most evident in the tailoring: angular, visually complex silhouettes – now a signature of Jacobs’s recent work –coexist seamlessly with elements of minimalism. The color palette is equally compelling. Plaid, which repeatedly appears in skirts and dresses, once again takes center stage in the collection – a motif the designer was particularly fond of in the late 2000s.

Many noted the collection’s remarkable wearability, with pieces that can easily be adapted for everyday life. Indeed, Marc Jacobs offers a range of striking and inspiring options this spring: straight-cut midi skirts, declared a key must-have for several seasons by Miuccia Prada; slim belts in the spirit of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, recently seen at Chanel and Coperni; and narrow satin scarves – a clear nod to early-2000s fashion.
