Madonna Announced the Death of Her Younger Brother
The singer honored the memory of a relative with archival photos
66-year-old Madonna has reported a heavy loss: her younger brother, Christopher Ciccone, passed away after a long battle with cancer. The former music director and dancer of the artist was 63 years old.
On her Instagram, Madonna emotionally bid farewell to her brother and shared a series of photos taken together over the years. According to the celebrity, Christopher always tried to support his sister and bring their wildest ideas to life together. She specifically mentioned their shared passion for dancing in childhood, which became a means of self-expression for both of them. Ciccone lived openly as a gay man in a conservative environment.
«It’s hard to explain our connection. But it grew from understanding that we are different, and society would put pressure on us because we didn’t conform to the status quo. We held hands and danced through the madness of childhood», — wrote the singer.
Madonna noted that both of them were rebels who refused to accept conservative values. Brother and sister decided to create their own.
«When I finally gathered the courage to move to New York to become a dancer, my brother followed me. And again, we held hands and danced through the madness of New York! We danced together on stage at the beginning of my career, and later he became my creative director», — Madonna explained.
The singer added that Christopher was an incredibly talented and complex person.
«My brother was by my side. He was an artist, a poet, and a dreamer. I admired him. He had impeccable taste. And a sharp tongue, which he sometimes used against me. But I always forgave him. We reached the highest heights together and fell down. Somehow, we always found each other again and held hands, continuing to dance».
For four long years, the artist and her brother didn’t communicate after he published a revealing book about his life and his famous sister. However, the siblings found their way back to each other when Christopher fell ill. Madonna made every effort to help him.
«I did everything I could to keep him alive as long as possible. He was in so much pain at the end. We held hands again. Closed our eyes and danced. Together. I’m glad he’s no longer suffering. There will never be anyone like him. I know he’s dancing somewhere», — Madonna wrote touchingly.
