Macrons file defamation lawsuit against American journalist

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron have filed a defamation lawsuit in the Delaware Supreme Court (USA) against American conservative activist and podcast host Candace Owens.
The lawsuit refers to what it describes as «absurd claims» made by Owens, the most serious being her allegation that Brigitte Macron was born male under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux.
The legal filing also states that Owens publicly claimed the Macrons are blood relatives and that Emmanuel Macron is the product of a CIA experiment or a similar «mind control program».
According to Reuters, to win a defamation case in the U.S., plaintiffs must prove that the defendant acted with actual malice – meaning they knew the information was false or showed reckless disregard for the truth.
It’s worth noting that the conspiracy theory claiming Brigitte Macron was born a man first gained traction on social media in 2021.
