Kate Middleton brings plaid back into fashion

Plaid is one of those patterns that returns to the fashion scene year after year. This versatile design looks equally elegant in business wardrobes, everyday outfits, and even formal attire. Its effect depends entirely on the fabric, color palette, and cut.

In the 1960s, plaid had already become a symbol of bold fashion: designers worldwide embraced the pattern, giving it a fresh and modern interpretation. Today, it can appear both strict and minimalist or bright and extravagant. Its greatest virtue lies in its freedom – age, status, or style are irrelevant: plaid is suitable for everyone.
One of the pattern’s most devoted admirers is undoubtedly Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales’ recent appearance proves this yet again.

Back in 2023, King Charles III appointed Prince William’s wife as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Royal Dragoon Guards and Honorary Royal Air Commodore of Coningsby. Just recently, the princess made her first official visit to the RAF base in Lincolnshire.

During her visit, Kate toured the new «Typhoon of the Future» training center. She was shown the Typhoon fighter jet and invited to try the flight simulator. The princess handled the controls with ease and even executed a loop. The squadron commander jokingly called her a «natural-born pilot». Kate noted, however, that her children «would not forgive» her for experiencing it without them, adding that her youngest son, Louis, dreams of becoming a fighter jet pilot.
«I will tell my children that it takes eight years and a lot of hard work», she concluded.

For the visit, Kate chose a grey plaid suit by Bella Freud, paired with a dark grey top by Alexander McQueen and Stuart Weitzman stilettos. The look was completed with sapphire and diamond earrings from Princess Diana’s collection and a gold brooch in the shape of an RAF wing.
